REDYSIGN featured at IFPC 2025, Europe’s top moulded fibre event

On 18 September, REDYSIGN was represented by its coordinator, Dr. Álvaro Tejado, during the New Innovations Session. 

The International Fibre Moulding and Paper Forming Conference (IFPC) 2025 celebrated its third edition on 17–18 September in Stockholm, Sweden, consolidating its reputation as Europe’s leading event for fibre-based and paper-based packaging solutions

Over the years, IFPC has become a benchmark meeting point for industry leaders, researchers, and innovators, where cutting-edge technologies, sustainable innovations, and valuable market insights take centre stage. In this edition, and by special invitation, REDYSIGN was represented by its coordinator, Dr. Álvaro Tejado, who presented some of the project’s latest advances. The conference has once again confirmed its role as the key venue where the most relevant developments in fibre and paper packaging are unveiled.

REDYSIGN at the New Innovations Session 

Hosted by RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, the 2025 edition gathered professionals, companies, and institutions at the forefront of moulded fibre and paper forming technology. The two-day programme included keynote speakers, expert-led discussions, and networking opportunities, all aimed at exploring the changing landscape of sustainable packaging solutions.

“Our mission with IFPC is to promote sustainable growth and innovation through meaningful connections – not only between industry and research, but also between the innovators themselves”. 

On the second day, REDYSIGN took the stage during the New Innovations Session, an exclusive programme segment highlighting the most promising developments in the sector. Representing the project, Dr. Álvaro Tejado (TECNALIA) gave a talk on REDYSIGN – Fresh Meat Packaging Trays with Improved Water Resistance through Enzymatically-Assisted Functionalization of Mechanical Pulp Fibres and Fines”.

The talk offered a comprehensive overview of the project’s objectives, consortium, and research advances, with a focus on: 

  • Valorisation of fines derived from thermomechanical pulp (TMP). 
  • Their enzymatic hydrophobization to produce thermo-pressed specimens with reduced surface roughness and improved water resistance. 
  • The incorporation of identification markers into fibre-based trays as a strategy to increase recycling efficiency by improving sorting of waste packaging, an action collaboratively carried out by PACKBENEFIT and FNMT. 

Reflecting on the event, our coordinator noted:

It was truly inspiring to witness and contribute to discussions at the forefront of molded fibre technology. A fantastic opportunity to exchange ideas and explore the future of sustainable packaging”. 

In addition, experts involved in the project also contributed to the conference, including Gert Preegel (FIBENOL), Dr. Gary Chinga-Carrasco, and Eva Pasquier from RISE PFI, highlighting the truly collaborative and international spirit of the event.

The IFPC 2025 confirmed once again its role as the main European platform for innovation in fibre and paper packaging. For REDYSIGN, participation in this prestigious setting not only showcased the project’s progress in sustainable fresh meat packaging but also reinforced its commitment to advancing circular and bio-based solutions for the future of packaging.
