The REDYSIGN project was showcased by VTT and FIBENOL at the conference, with results on wood-based sugar-derived adhesives and active involvement in the BioEconomy Innovation Track.
The 9th EPNOE International Polysaccharide Conference was held from 25–28 August 2025, arriving for the first time in Sweden. As the largest international event dedicated to polysaccharides and their role in driving renewable resources and bio-based innovation, it brought together more than 300 researchers and experts from around the world in Sundsvall.
REDYSIGN was represented by partners VTT and FIBENOL, who took part in the poster exhibition and contributed to a brand-new feature in the programme, the BioEconomy Innovation Track. The conference was hosted by Mid Sweden University in collaboration with the FSCN Research Centre, creating a vibrant forum to share the latest research and developments in polysaccharides and bio-based materials.
REDYSIGN highlights from EPNOE 2025
EPNOE 2025 is the leading international gathering in the polysaccharides, held every two years. The event explored the full spectrum of polysaccharide science, from fundamental studies to industrial applications and market-ready products. The 2025 edition offered around 150 scientific talks, over 100 posters, and panel debates, highlighting the work of renowned experts worldwide.
On 26 August, VTT presented the poster “Wood-based sugar-derived adhesives” at the exhibition, authored by Tetyana Koso, Alistair W. T. King, and Hannes Orelma. The poster showcased findings from the REDYSIGN project, highlighting performance testing results supported by images of bonded film–film and board–film samples after trials, together with the formulations selected for the experiments.
Following the exhibition, Tetyana Koso remarked:
“Connecting with fellow scientists is always a rewarding experience—an opportunity to share your work, gain fresh insights, and receive informal advice shaped by others’ experiences. The EPNOE conference consistently offers an inspiring platform for these exchanges. Science brings people together in a shared mission to make the world a better place to live”.
The project was also showcased in the Bioeconomy Innovation Track on the 27th of August. Gert Preegel, from FIBENOL, addressed “High-Performance MCC from Hardwood: Unlocking New Functionalities Through Process Innovation”. After that, Katariina Torvinen (VTT Executive Board Member and Vice-President for Innovation) delivered “Accelerating transformation from scientific discoveries into commercial products”. Both contributions provided fresh insights for the bio-based sector and opened new paths for collaboration.
