A small, everyday action, such as purchasing and disposing of food packaging, can have far-reaching environmental consequences. This idea is illustrated through the story of María, the main character in REDYSIGN’s first animated video.

What the video shows: A new way to tell the REDYSIGN mission

The REDYSIGN video presents the challenges associated with conventional plastic packaging and highlights the project’s mission to develop a recyclable, bio-based alternative for fresh meat packaging. Through concise storytelling and engaging visuals, the clip aims to raise awareness among consumers and stakeholders about the importance of sustainable packaging solutions.

Plastic packaging, particularly in the food sector, represents a major environmental challenge. It generates high levels of waste, contributes to CO₂ emissions and pollution, and has a low recycling rate, especially in applications that involve direct contact with food. In this context, REDYSIGN is working to develop a new packaging concept based on renewable raw materials, with recyclability and circularity integrated from the design stage.

Funded by the Circular Bio-Based Europe Joint Undertaking, the REDYSIGN project brings together 13 partners from 7 European countries. The consortium combines scientific expertise, technological development, and industrial application to advance innovative materials and processes for fibre-based packaging.

The video represents a shared effort to make the project’s mission visible and relatable beyond the research community. Watch and learn how REDYSIGN is contributing to a more sustainable future through science, collaboration, and innovation.
